Welcome to Stan Knighton Shukokai Karate

Sensei Knighton started his martial arts journey in 1962 when as a schoolboy he joined a Judo club

In 1964 he joined a Karate club learning Wado Ryu style Karate and when his club decided to change to Shukokai style Karate he met the Japanese instructors Sensei's Tani and Kimura who awarded him his black belt in 1969

During the 1970's he competed for the English and British All Styles teams in European and World Championships. He attended the first World Championships held in Tokyo and Osaka and in 1977 was European Kumite champion

During the 1980's he retired from competition and concentrated on developing his students into black belts

Karate was somewhat fractured in the UK during the 1990's and Sensei Knighton was elected as Chairman of the newly formed English Karate Governing Body (EKGB). Under his chairmanship the EKGB gained Sport England recognition and also Sport England Funding and National Lottery funding. He retired as Chairman in 1998

Since the turn of the century he has concentrated on developing teaching methods to enable students to achieve an enjoyable experience on the road to Black belt using the Stan Knighton Shukokai Karate pathway

Sensei Knighton is now a 10th Dan black belt teaches Karate in Sheffield UK and has developed this online training website so that anyone in the internet world can access his knowledge and experience
